Nikko epitomizes autumn in Japan. Located along Japan's version of Germany's "Romantic Road," leading over 350 kilometers through the mountains of Nagano, Gunma and Tochigi. Nikko has been a center of Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship for many centuries. It is most famous for the Toshogu, Japan's most lavishly decorated shrine complex and mausoleum of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.
